From California Sunsets to Amsterdam Canals

The Story Behind By Your Side by Mary Droese

If you had told me ten years ago that I’d be living in Amsterdam, mentoring students as they find their way in life and work—I might have smiled, but I wouldn’t have believed it.

Career & Life Experience

My career began in California and spanned over four decades in technology. I worked in semiconductors, banking, software, and education—leading teams, managing projects, and mentoring professionals at AMD, Intel, Salesforce, Wells Fargo Bank, US Bank, Charles Schwab, and Saxo Bank.

I also raised two sons and learned how to guide, support, and let people grow at their own pace.

Starting Over

Eventually, life shifted. After a long marriage ended, I decided to start again. I packed my bags and began traveling solo, rediscovering not just the world, but myself.

Amsterdam welcomed me. Its balance of structure and creativity made it feel like home. I knew this could be the place to build something new—and meaningful.

What I Offer Now

By Your Side is the result of everything I’ve learned—as a professional, a parent, and a person starting over.

I help students in Amsterdam build real-life skills:

  • Managing independence

  • Navigating adult systems

  • Developing routines and emotional resilience

  • Preparing for the job market with strong resumes and confident interviews

This isn’t just support—it’s mentorship for life.

Why It Matters

Students today need more than logistics help. They need encouragement, structure, and someone to guide—not do.

I’m here to help them build the tools they need for the long term—with honesty, care, and experience.

If you’re a parent looking for trusted support for your student in Amsterdam, I’d love to connect.

🟡 Want to share your student’s story? I’d love to hear it.

Because even when you can’t be in the same city, they can still have a trusted adult by their side.
